'Lydia' By Highly Suspect
October 8th, 2015 at 12:00PMI just discovered these guys. They remind me of Kings Of Leon, one of my favorites. This song, "Lydia," was the first one to jump out at me. The lyrics are creative, rather than merely emotional, and that is rare these days. The music is ominous, foreboding. It's about a romantic relationship doomed regardless of strong love. That's why the metaphors are so powerful and tragic. It hurts worse to lose someone you love. You even feel responsible somehow, like you weren't good enough to deserve it, otherwise it should have worked out. This is good art.
As good as the song is, the video is even better -- and appropriate. The song is about a doomed relationship.; the video is about an "inescapable fate." You have to see it to believe it. Just be sure to watch the behind-the-scenes video, too, because it was shot in one harrowing take and it only took six tries to get it right.
