Critical Listening: How to Quickly Understand Difficult Things

April 2nd, 2023 at 3:41AM

Always know what you're doing and why you're doing it. My brain can't retain as many concrete details as hers apparently can, so I stay focused on the why and sort of unfocus on the what -- by which I mean consciously avoiding self-judgment until I actually have something to evaluate, while also accepting personal limitations I've discovered from such evaluations -- and then, if the subject is important enough to me to devote to it serious study, rely on repetition to eventually make whatever I want to learn stick. If you're constantly thinking shit like "I have to learn this. I have to learn this. I have to learn this." while you're trying to "learn this", you'll never achieve your goal. And if you don't have a good reason for doing whatever you're doing, you won't care enough to see it through.

Works every time. 🙂
