Okay. I can't possibly know one way or the other the truth about sexual assault allegations, so what do I know? I know reputation is almost as important in business as the product or service it sells. I know Russell Brand's business IS reputation, his appeal as a public figure, his authority as an "influencer". This is low-hanging fruit even for cancel culture, not even a challenge. He's literally being attacked with his own reputation by his own reputation. Yesterday, we LOVED it. Today, we don't. Why? Pissing off the elite, the hypocrisy of crowds, the evolution of popular culture and "social morality", shorter attention spans 🤣, the youth's generational lack of historical knowledge -- none of this explains why anyone would suddenly take seriously "horrid" behavior he/she has suspected was happening all along, even laughed at or whatever, and when you consider the fact that cancel culture isn't some super-organism of outraged, disembodied human heads, that it's really just a shitload of individuals not the least bit concerned with the context of the actual issue, judging the issue purely abstractly with little if no concern for the lives and facts involved, then it seems to me like we're running out of people to cancel. We just can't figure out how to use that power of collective judgment responsibly.
