Public education itself is inconsistent with the American ideology, the political philosphy that originally guided the inception of the social system we call "American".

It's inconsistent with freedom, with liberty, with the right to educate ourselves (and our kids) however we think is best, based upon whatever beliefs we hold to be true, not what the government decrees by whatever mechanisms, such as voting by whom-the-fuck-ever, but what we as individuals free from any form of physical coercion develop economically via supply and demand.

I think, personally, for instance, that exposure to many ideologies is a crucial aspect of any curriculum, if only to inculcate the ability to differentiate between them, as a life skill in a society driving us insane with parapsychological intimacy, but if someone else wishes to (attempt to) shelter themselves (or their kids or students) from encountering belief systems with which they disagree, I see no reason to stop them. That's the American way. 🙂
